Friends of Citrus County Animal Services was formed by a team of concerned citizens who are dedicated to advocating animal welfare, community involvement and humane education to further the bond between people and animals and increase the adopt-ability of shelter animals. This organization shall:
build awareness in the community about the shelter, FOCCAS;
highlight our adoptable pets and work to increase pet adoptions;
foster alliances with rescues;
offer community education & outreach highlighting the responsibilities of pet ownership;
expand fundraising opportunities (walkathons, pet sponsorships, calendar contests, etc.);
pursue grant writing opportunities;
steer fundraising dollars towards agreed upon items not covered by the Citrus County Animal Services (CCAS) operational budget: extraordinary medical procedures, quality of life, lifestyle and facility upgrades for the shelter animals
In addition to helping facilitate adoptions at Citrus County Animal Shelter, FOCCAS supports several Community Outreach programs and events. Held primarily on weekends, these events introduce FOCCAS and the Citrus County Animal Shelter to the public in a positive way. Shelter animals accompany volunteers to these events to serve as ambassadors, to attract attention, and to interest the public in adoptions.
